Việt Nam and Singapore are advancing their relationship beyond traditional economic ties, focusing on building political trust and enhancing strategic coordination, particularly in technology, innovation, and sustainable development. This initiative comes ahead of Vietnamese leader Tô Lâm’s state visit to Singapore from May 29 to 31. According to Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyễn Mạnh Cường, the bilateral relationship is evolving to prioritize future-oriented sectors that bolster long-term growth and regional integration within the ASEAN framework.
The ties between the two nations were elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2025, underscoring their mutual political trust and aligned strategic interests. Singapore holds a pivotal role in Việt Nam’s economy as one of its most significant partners and its second-largest source of foreign investment, with numerous projects in manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, finance, real estate, and high technology. A key symbol of their cooperation is the Việt Nam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) network, which is expanding toward greener, smarter industrial models that align with sustainable development objectives.
Both countries are also intensifying collaboration in areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, big data, clean energy, digital transformation, and green transition initiatives. Efforts are being made to connect innovation ecosystems, technology enterprises, and skilled talent networks in both nations, fostering a conducive environment for technological advancements and sustainable development.
During Tô Lâm’s visit, economic cooperation will remain a central focus, with an emphasis on enhancing collaboration in finance, trade, supply chains, and technology development. Initiatives like “Tech Connect” aim to forge stronger connections between governments, universities, research institutes, and private companies, particularly in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and green technology sectors. Additionally, the visit is expected to bolster the development of sustainable and high-tech VSIP projects across Việt Nam.
Tô Lâm is also scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, a prominent regional security forum. This invitation is seen as an acknowledgment of Việt Nam’s growing international presence and its dedication to peace, cooperation, and strategic autonomy.
