The decisive moment came on the Col d’Èze, where the Dutch cyclist surged ahead with about 600 meters left on the last ascent, leaving Niewiadoma unable to keep up despite her persistent efforts throughout the climbs. Niewiadoma, the 2024 champion, had launched multiple attacks but ultimately could not dislodge Vollering.
The victory for Vollering unfolded amid a backdrop of tension between the two riders, stemming from a disagreement over race tactics during Saturday’s stage. Niewiadoma had accused Célia Gery, a member of Vollering’s team, of blocking her during a crucial segment of the race, leading to criticism and ongoing dialogue between the competitors before the final stage.
