The Philippines has announced an extension of its visa-free entry program for holders of Taiwanese passports, allowing them to visit the country for up to 14 days without a visa until June 30 of next year. This initiative, initially introduced last year, aims to bolster tourism and enhance cultural exchange between the two nations. Travelers from Taiwan who wish to stay longer than the designated 14 days are still required to secure a visa prior to their arrival in the Philippines.
This decision aligns with the Philippines’ strategy of maintaining reciprocal visa policies with Taiwan, which also grants visa-free access to Filipino citizens. The Philippines is eager to boost its tourism sector by attracting more visitors from Taiwan, a key market for the country. Efforts to increase tourism include expanding flight routes and promoting diverse destinations beyond the well-trodden paths of places like Palawan, showcasing the rich and varied experiences available throughout the archipelago.
In the initial five months of this year alone, nearly 94,000 tourists from Taiwan chose the Philippines as their travel destination, underscoring Taiwan’s significance as one of the leading sources of international visitors to the country. This figure marks an increase from the same period last year, reflecting the success of the visa-free policy in encouraging more Taiwanese to explore the Philippines.
The visa-free program is part of a broader effort by the Philippine government to strengthen bilateral ties and foster closer relationships through tourism and people-to-people connections. By welcoming Taiwanese tourists with greater ease of entry, the Philippines hopes to create a more inviting and accessible environment that encourages travel and cultural engagement between the two countries.
