In a bid to boost the adoption of artificial intelligence among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Singapore is intensifying its efforts through new collaborations, training initiatives, and cybersecurity measures. These developments were highlighted by Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information, Tan Kiat How, during the Asia Tech x Singapore event. He urged businesses to prioritize practical applications of AI over merely following industry trends.
As part of this push, the government has expanded its initiatives under the Digital Enterprise Blueprint (DEB), which serves as Singapore’s roadmap for supporting SME digitalization and AI integration. Since the DEB’s inception, over 26,000 SMEs have reaped its benefits, with AI adoption in businesses soaring from 4.3 percent in 2023 to an anticipated 53.5 percent by 2025.
Part of these efforts includes forging new partnerships with companies like Grab and RSM Stone Forest IT. Grab’s initiative focuses on aiding 10,000 SMEs within the food, retail, and e-commerce sectors. It offers free online training, webinars, and AI courses developed in collaboration with the Singapore University of Technology and Design. Meanwhile, RSM Stone Forest IT is launching a cybersecurity program aimed at strengthening the cyber defenses of 2,000 SMEs by conducting phishing simulation exercises to pinpoint and address security vulnerabilities.
The government has also unveiled the “AI for Enterprise Impact Playbook,” a guide crafted by the Infocomm Media Development Authority, SkillsFuture Singapore, and Workforce Singapore. This resource is intended to assist businesses in identifying appropriate AI solutions and opportunities for workforce training, thereby facilitating smoother AI integration.
Highlighting its commitment to recognizing AI excellence, Singapore is set to introduce the inaugural SME AI Impact Awards in 2026. These awards will honor Singapore-registered SMEs that have successfully leveraged AI technologies to achieve tangible improvements in operations or workforce efficiency, providing they have used these AI solutions for at least six months.
