Southern Luzon in the Philippines is bracing for significant rainfall as easterly winds are set to bring moist air from the Pacific Ocean. This weather pattern is expected to cause rain overnight and into Wednesday, impacting several areas including Quezon, Rizal, Laguna, Aurora, the Bicol Region, Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and northern Palawan. While the rainfall is generally anticipated to be light to moderate, heavier downpours could occur, heightening concerns for flooding and landslides in vulnerable regions.
The Visayas region is also expected to be affected, particularly Western Visayas, which is forecast to receive the most rainfall. Eastern Visayas will likely experience cloudy skies accompanied by scattered showers and thunderstorms. The potential for moderate to heavy rain poses a risk of flash floods and landslides in areas susceptible to such events.
In contrast, Northern Luzon is predicted to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rain due to northeasterly winds. Meanwhile, Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and other parts of Calabarzon may experience partly cloudy weather with isolated showers and localized thunderstorms.
Across Mindanao, the forecast suggests generally fair weather in the morning, with partly cloudy to sunny skies. However, localized thunderstorms are possible during the afternoon and evening, especially in Northern Mindanao, the Caraga region, and the northern Zamboanga Peninsula.
Authorities are advising residents in flood and landslide-prone areas to stay informed by monitoring weather updates and to carry umbrellas for protection during heavy rain. Caution is urged during periods of intense rainfall to ensure safety and minimize the risk of weather-related incidents.
