Singapore is poised to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to drive development across its key economic sectors, including advanced manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, and connectivity. These areas represent over 40 percent of the country’s gross domestic product, making them central to the government’s AI strategy set forth in Budget 2026. By integrating AI, Singapore aims not only to enhance these specific industries but also to fuel broader economic expansion.
Trade and Industry Minister Tan See Leng emphasized that the transformation driven by AI could open new avenues for both the affected sectors and the wider economy. However, he cautioned that the extent of these benefits hinges on companies’ abilities to effectively redesign their operations and incorporate AI technologies. As Singapore moves forward, strengthening its pool of talent, capital, and expertise will be crucial, especially considering its relatively small population.
Meanwhile, Cambodia is also navigating the complexities of AI integration. The country’s Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, Hem Vanndy, noted that AI presents both opportunities and challenges as Cambodia continues its digital transformation journey. He stressed the importance of equipping businesses and workers with the necessary skills to adopt emerging technologies and boost productivity.
The ministers highlighted that maintaining openness, fostering workforce development, and embracing technological adaptation are essential as nations contend with geopolitical tensions, trade barriers, and evolving global supply chains. These factors are critical for countries like Singapore and Cambodia to successfully harness AI and ensure sustainable growth amid the shifting global economic landscape.
